State of the States, March 27

Supplemental benefits to independent taxi Lyft and Uber driversWhat's happening this week in workers' compensation? IWP's weekly legislative wrap-up, State of the States, keeps you up to date on important matters within the workers' compensation and pharmacy arena.

This week's legislative wrap-up contains updates including:

  • The New Jersey Senate unanimously passed a bill designed to expand workers' compensation coverage under the state's cardiovascular injury presumption to include volunteer first responders. Currently, the bill is being considered by the Assembly Labor Committee.
  • In Mississippi, the House Drug Policy Committee is considering a bill that would require electronic prescriptions for all controlled substances prescribed in the state. If it passes, then on July 1, 2021, Mississippi will join the majority of other states that have ePrescribing mandates.

  • The Executive Director of New York's Black Car Fund, which offers supplemental benefits to independent taxi, Lyft, and Uber drivers throughout the state, asked the legislature to create similar benefits systems for all gig economy workers in the state.
