IWP Expands Compliance Program

_DSC6742

The safety and well-being of the patients we serve is at the core of everything we do as THE Patient Advocate Pharmacy.  A key part of our commitment is having proper practices in place to assure prescriptions are for a legitimate medical purpose, screen for fraud or diversion, and identify potential misuse or abuse.

Though our existing programs are strong, as an industry leader in addressing the risk of diversion, misuse, and abuse associated with controlled substances, IWP is taking a number of additional steps to enhance our compliance program:

  • Expanding our compliance department with the addition of a Chief Compliance Officer
  • Adding a pharmacist who specializes in pain management and is focused on clinical intervention
  • Increasing counseling to our high-risk patients and engage in ongoing communication with the patient and their health care provider
  • Bolstering our sales and marketing policies, including enhanced documentation of marketing activities

Many of these steps were developed in collaboration with the Attorney General of Massachusetts, as part of a recent review they undertook of past business practices.

We will continue to assess and evolve our practices in the best interest of our patients and in compliance with state and federal regulations. That is not only our commitment to those we serve, but to our employees, who carry out these important protocols each day.
