The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will host a webinar on October 1 at 2 pm to review the workers’ compensation Medicare set-aside (WCMSA) reporting process. The session will cover new reporting requirements introduced in April and offer best practices for compliance. The International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC) will offer a new training program focused on electronic data interchange (EDI) for workers’ compensation claims. The training will cover topics such as submitting injury reports, understanding jurisdiction-specific workflows, and navigating state-specific requirements. The National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) released its 2025 Legislative and Regulatory Trends Report. According to the report, there is a growing legislative interest in mental injury coverage, particularly for first responders, as well as issues related to marijuana reimbursement, independent contractors, and the gig economy.Florida – The Workers’ Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) will host a free webinar on September 25 at 2:00 PM ET to present its CompScope® Benchmarks. Ohio – The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) will host a virtual Medical & Health Symposium from September 17 to 19, 2025. This free event will explore key challenges in occupational health, including neurological injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in workers’ compensation claims. Registration is now open.
Tennessee – The Tennessee Bureau of Workers’ Compensation will host a free one-hour virtual webinar for case managers on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 1 pm Central, to explore how they can support injured workers through the Next Step Program. Registration is required to attend.
Texas – The Texas Division of Workers' Compensation (DWC) released its 2026 compliance and investigations audit plan. Audits will examine lifetime income and death benefits, temporary income benefits, and medical billing practices using sample claims data from injuries occurring between September 1, 2018, and April 30, 2025.
