National – The National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) released its latest Insights Report. Based on data from its Classification Inspection Program, the report identifies key shifts in business operations and classification practices. It highlights the top five reclassified governing codes and explores the underlying operational changes that led to these adjustments, using data collected between 2022 and 2024.
A new report released by Wisedocs at the Workers’ Compensation Institute’s Annual Conference, titled AI in Claims: The 4x Trust Effect of Human Oversight, reveals that claims professionals are four times more likely to trust AI-generated outputs when expert oversight is involved. The survey found that trust in AI alone stands at 16% but rises to 60% with human review. The report also identifies key barriers to AI adoption, including concerns about accuracy (54%), regulatory compliance (49%), and system integration (45%).
Connecticut – Pie Insurance announced the launch of its workers’ compensation insurance in Connecticut. This expansion aims to address challenges in Connecticut’s workers’ comp market, where small businesses frequently face limited options and higher premiums, according to the press release.
Michigan – Late last week, lawmakers introduced HB 4764 to establish a cancer presumption for county medical examiners. The bill covers full-time, part-time, and on-call examiners, deputy examiners, and investigators. Individuals who have completed at least 60 months of active service and receive a cancer diagnosis would qualify for the presumption if their illness resulted from occupational exposure. Covered exposures include hazards related to fire suppression, rescue operations, emergency medical services, and incident investigations.
New York – Governor Kathy Hochul appointed Freida D. Foster as Chair of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB). She succeeds Clarissa M. Rodriguez, who stepped down as Chair in July but will remain a Board Member. Renee Delgado, appointed to the Board in 2022, was and has been named Vice Chair.
Texas – The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), Division of Workers’ Compensation, proposed the Fiscal Year 2026 Research Agenda of the Workers’ Compensation Research and Evaluation Group (REG). The agenda focuses on evaluating healthcare network performance, analyzing medical cost and utilization trends, and assessing return-to-work outcomes for injured employees in the Texas workers’ compensation system.
Texas Mutual Insurance Co. policyholders elected Doug Cogan to its board of directors for a six-year term. The company also announced the reelection of Steve Oldham and the appointment of William Quinn as vice chair.
