IWP Releases Second Issue of "Opioid and the Injured Worker" Whitepaper Series

As THE Patient Advocate Pharmacy, IWP makes it our goal to return patients to a productive life by treating more than just their injury. We work diligently to advocate for and protect the interests of the injured worker and understand the importance of keeping you informed on the issues that affect their recovery.

IWP has developed a series of white papers to examine the various efforts made by state legislatures to combat opioid abuse within their workers' compensation systems. The first issue of the series covered the strategies adopted by Florida, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Texas. Topics included regulation and education, prescription monitoring programs, drug formulary changes and physician dispensing reforms. Click here to read the full first issue.

The second and most recent installment of the series examines physician dispensing and the role it plays in the opioid abuse epidemic that is gripping the U.S. State legislators across the nation have sponsored legislation to limit or in some states even ban physician dispensing altogether. In this issue, we take a look at the legislation adopted by Florida, Indiana, Hawaii and Maryland and compare the successes and shortcomings of each of the programs.
